Teachers at Alice V. Hedden Elementary School came up with a novel and fun way for students to expand their vocabulary – “Excellent Vocabulary Day,” held Jan. 17. The entire school participated in this activity, including teachers and staff. They were all tasked first with choosing a new vocabulary word. Then they defined it, came up with appropriate antonyms and synonyms and used the words in sentences. Next they had to create something that illustrated the word for a whole-school celebration that included a parade and prizes.
Some chose to write poems, others told stories, and everyone made clever and hilarious costumes or hats to embody their word.
