The Fife High Booster Club has some exciting things on tap for this year’s dinner and auction. A popular community fundraiser for both the club and the Fife High School Scholarship Foundation, the March 21 event will be held in a new venue this year, the Celebration Park Community Center in Federal Way. Fife High School Principal Mark Knight will be the master of ceremonies.
Booster Club President Roy Ray said it has been a bit more difficult this year procuring items for the live and silent auctions due to the down economy, but nevertheless generous local businesses and individuals have stepped forward to donate some pretty cool things: a locally handmade cedar chest, a Wii video game console, appliances, trips and vacations, dinner out on the town, tickets to sporting events, items for golfers, a fishing tour, gift baskets and package deals for services like yard work. There are also many things of interest to graduating students and their parents such as tuxes for the prom, gift certificates for beauty salons, hotel/spa packages, and tickets for front-row seats at graduation. There will even be bids taken on a primo reserved parking spot at school.
Dinner, prepared by the award-winning Three Chicks Catering in Federal Way, will have a Mexican theme this year – a fajita bar and taco bar, with a local bartender mixing up drinks for purchase. A dessert auction will be held after dinner, and the highest bidders will get first pick of the sweet offerings.
All money raised will be split between the Booster Club and the Scholarship Foundation. The Booster Club funds many activities and programs at Fife High including educational scholarships, expenses for graduating seniors as needed, athletic uniforms, equipment and accessories and school band uniforms, among other things. The Scholarship Foundation provides financial support in the form of a scholarship to Fife High School seniors who are pursuing further education after graduation.
Jill Tanabe, a kindergarten teacher at Discovery Primary School, is pres-
ident of the Fife High School Scholarship Foundation and has worked with the group for almost 10 years. She noted that times are tough for everyone, which means the success of this year’s dinner and auction will be particularly important.
“Sometimes we feel like we’ve exhausted the community, we hit them up for so many things,” she said. “We’re worried about not raising as much as we have in past years, but we’re hoping people will come out and support the schools.”
Tickets are $30 a person and are available at the Fife High School office. Discounts are offered for tables of 10. The silent auction begins at 5:30 p.m., live auction at 7 p.m.
Volunteers are always welcome, especially the night of the event. For more information on this or for any other questions, contact Ray at (253) 874-3968 or Tanabe at (253) 927-2317.
