The annual powwow at Surprise Lake Middle School attracted dancers, drummers and spectators alike for an evening of community and family on March 3. Always a wonderful event, this 2017 powwow was no different, as everyone enjoyed music, cultural sharing and vendors selling food and Native-themed wares.
Fife Schools’ Indian Education Coordinator Martha Sherman gave special thanks to those who came out to take part. “I also thank the Puyallup and Federal Way Native American Education programs for their help, along with the families and students that showed up to help,” she said. “It is always a good time at a powwow – dance, song, food, friends and family. If you have never attended a powwow, you should. It is fun for the whole family.”
