A quality education is something all our kids deserve. But for many low income families in our community, just getting a good start to the school year is a struggle. Parents spend on average over $75 for each child, simply to purchase back packs and other school supplies at the start of the school year. That can be overwhelming.
That is why for eight years Mountain View Community Center has helped local kids get the tools they need to succeed through the Center’s annual Back to School BBQ. In 2016, MVCC distributed more than 700 backpacks of school supplies and 2,200 clothing items. Kids and their families also had access to free haircuts, face painting,
and a BBQ lunch.
But MVCC cannot do it without the support of people like you! How can you help?
Bring clean, gently used clothing or new socks or underwear for kids to Mountain View Community Center by Wednesday, Aug. 23.
Donate a new backpack or school supplies at any of the following locations: Les Schwab (Edgewood); Columbia Bank (Milton); North Hill Fitness; Lee’s Martial Arts; Albertson’s (Milton); Rite Aid (Milton) and Old Cannery Furniture (Sumner).
Or support this event by making a donation at: weblink.donorperfect.com/schoolsupplies
If your business or organization would like to be involved either as volunteers or through a school supply or clothing drive, please contact MVCC at (253) 826-4329.
