
Mountain View exceeds outreach goals
Volunteers at Mountain View Community Center (MVCC) in Edgewood have worked hard to ensure families in need will have a happy holiday this season. The center has wrapped up its second annual Toys for Tots drive with much support from the community. In conjunction with this event, MVCC also decided to host its own separate Christmas Outreach program, to assist families of the Edgewood FISH Food Bank. Volunteers distributed clothing and toys and prepared a turkey meal. Jessie Holden, community coordinator for MVCC, said during both events volunteers logged more than 700 hours and served 287 families or 973 individuals. Read more...

Surprise Lake Middle School Food Drive 2009
The Surprise Lake Middle School community brought in an impressive 4,000-plus items for the annual school-wide food drive. All of these items were taken to the school’s Resource Center, located on the Discovery Primary School campus, that serves the local community. Food was collected in the first-period classes with Mrs. Peters’ and Mr. Stockman’s classes taking top honors. Birders prepare for annual count
Birding enthusiasts will be busy Dec. 19 during Audubon Society’s annual Christmas Bird Count. There are eight areas in Pierce County where the counting will take place. Fife is split between areas two and seven, with Interstate 5 as the boundary. All eight encompass an area with a 15-mile radius, with Tacoma Mall as the approximate central point. Read more...
